A sports shop in the suburbs

The project for a modern sports shop, carried out in one of London's suburbs, became an example of a functional and expressive retail space in which light plays a key role in the perception of the brand and the products.

HOKASU developed a comprehensive lighting solution for the sales floor, the fitting rooms and the checkout area, taking into account the high ceiling, the open plan and the dense display of sportswear and trainers.

Lighting concept

The basis of the project was track lighting with black luminaires of minimalist design. This solution made it possible to keep the industrial character of the interior and to provide flexibility when the display changes.

  • Clear accent lighting of the goods
  • No glaring general light
  • Visual zoning of the sales floor
  • Comfortable perception of the space despite the high ceiling

Sales floor

The sales floor uses directional track luminaires with optimally selected beam angles. The light draws attention to the trainer stands, the central shoe islands and the clothing rails, forming clear wayfinding inside the shop.

A warm-neutral colour temperature renders the colours of textiles and shoe materials correctly, which is especially important for sports retail.

Shop window and façade

Large glazed windows open up a view of the sales floor and the checkout area from the street. The lighting is arranged so that the shop interior reads well from outside, creating an effect of "inviting light" without aggressive brightness or advertising accents.

Checkout area

The checkout is picked out by a separate composition of light. Accent light emphasises the counter, provides comfort for the staff and visually marks the end point of the customer's route.

Fitting rooms

The fitting rooms use soft, even lighting without harsh shadows or colour distortion. This creates comfortable conditions for trying on clothes and increases the customer's trust in the visual perception of the product.

Conclusion

The lighting design project by HOKASU for the sports shop in a London suburb shows how well-considered lighting can strengthen the architecture of a space, improve the ease of wayfinding and directly influence the commercial performance of retail.
